BUILDING COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH FAMILIES

Building effective relationships with families is an important strategy to promoting healthy child development and can help prevent child abuse and neglect.

This session will help family professionals:

  • Learn how to define and practice active listening skills.
  • Identify how the concept of “parallel process” and reflection can help explain how a participants’ own feelings, thoughts, motivations, reactions, and behaviors can influence their work with children and families.
  • Develop strategies to establish effective relationships with families.
  • Identify ways participants’ own culture influences their relationships with families.
