Art*A*Must Raises $38,000 for Child Abuse Prevention

Art*A*Must, Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina’s annual fundraising gala, was a hugh success raising $38,000. Held August 18 at the Koger Center for the Arts, the event was a spectacular evening with more than 400 guests attending.

Guests enjoyed a true evening of elegance at this black tie gala featuring for sale the works of accomplished artists, a silent auction and music provided by Skipp Pearson and Friends, harpist Dr. Charles Renick; and pianist Mary Lee Taylor and The Upton Trio. The musical highlight of the evening was a concert to close the evening by the renowned Beatles tribute band, THE RETURN.

Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina (PCASC) was pleased to present five BLOCK Awards during the VIP (Vested in Prevention) Reception and Preview Party. The 2006 recipients are South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster, First Presbyterian Church of Greenville; Desmond P. Kelly, M.D. – Greenville Hospital System; Denise Barker, Divisional Director – SC Children’s Foster Care Review Board, and Susan Cato, Executive Director of the Child Abuse Prevention Association.

The BLOCK Award was established by PCASC to recognize individuals, organizations and programs across the state who have played a significant role in the prevention of the maltreatment of children and who have made an impact on creating healthy, safe and nurturing environments for children and families.

PCASC extends its deepest gratitude to those sponsors and benefactors that helped to make Art*A*Must possible. All proceeds from Art*A*Must will benefit PCASC and its efforts in preventing the abuse and neglect of South Carolina’s children by providing local and statewide training on effective prevention strategies, sponsor public awareness campaigns and events, and provide a toll-free information hotline: 1-800-CHILDREN.
